Bright & Classical Keys with Lindsey Bills

Camelot Fabrics is priviledged to work with an array of talented makers who showcase our products in their inspiring handmade projects. For National Sewing Month, we want to celebrate these makers and their zeal for sewing.

Today we are sharing projects from Lindsey Bills of The Quilting Corner where she shares her brightly pieced creations and custom designed sewing patterns.

Lindsey began sewing at the time of the 2020 pandemic as she searched for a creative outlet and fell in love with quilting. It has been a source of joy and a way to ‘fill up her cup’ as a busy mom of two young children. She began a sewing account on Instagram called @the.quilting.corner, which has been a great way to connect with other people in the community. In the last year, Lindsey expanded her love of quilting from a hobby to a business. She now has a shop offering sewing patterns, stickers, and other fun inspirations.

While Lindsey is a talented sewist she favors making quilts, mostly appreciating the power of smaller quilted projects, such as bags, table runners, project organizers and needlebooks. Making smaller projects may sound easy or faster to construct but it is quite the contrary as a smaller pattern can be more intricate and challenging in many ways. This gives Lindsey the opportunity to slow down, exercise patience, and really pay attention to detail, which she loves! It is Lindsey’s hope that her work will add to the quilting community and inspire others to explore more avenues of textile art.

Afterall, it is the community she found that has been Lindsey’s favorite part of sewing. When asked what her most valued quilting advice has been she said, “While I’ve learned a handful of tips and tricks over the last few years, nothing has helped me to become a better quilter, more than the community and friendships that surround me. There is such a wealth of knowledge in this space and so many kind people that are happy to offer support, just to see you succeed... Even outside of social media, there are quilters in nearly every nook of the world ready to teach, guide, and inspire the next generation through quilt guilds, shows, and more.”

We could not agree more Lindsey! That is why we at Camelot Fabrics are thrilled to have you featured as a maker for National Sewing Month. Using a bundle of Camelot Fabrics New Fresh Solids Lindsey created a high contrasting, color-forward table runner for us to share with you!

The Zara Table Runner pattern was designed and written by Lindsey herself. It was inspired by her affinity for stripes, which she says have always been her ‘thing’. Shortly after Lindsey began quilting, she had the idea to create a table runner that showcased stripes and bright colors with a piano key border setting.

Pairing the design with Camelot Fabrics New Fresh Solids vibrant rainbow motif was the right choice.

We’re completely enamored by the idea of pulling in the classic black and white piano keys into a quilted table runner. The feel of a jazzy tune comes to mind with the bright colors, but we can also see the Zara Table Runner elevated to a classical set with a change of Fresh Solid fabric choices to more subtle light colors. Purely genius design with many possibilities. The table runner measures 14”x 38”, but can double as a wall hanging with a bonus set of instructions included. Only eight colors are needed for the project as shown, however Lindsey designed it to be pre-cut and scrap friendly as well.

Sewing Tip: Lindsey was able to create this crisp stripey lined table runner by using her tried and true method of highly satuarating her fabrics with starch. Anytime a pattern calls for strip or curved piecing, she insists starching the fabrics first will create a more successful end product. It is a simple step that can increase the accuracy when cutting fabrics, reduce warping while sewing, and provide crisper, flatter seams; which is what we all want!

The Zara Table Runner pattern allows you the perfect oppotunity to showcase a wide variety of colors and prints, from saturated neons to subtle earth tones. So, don’t be afraid to play around with color and prints. Quilting is meant to be fun!

Thank you Lindsey for making this colorful table runner using Camelot Fabrics.
