Color Play Arched Window Mini Quilt by Jasmine Rosal

When planning the fabric pull for a project, my mind immediately goes to theme printed fabrics. For example, if I’m planning to make a hotpad I think of fruit themed prints. If I’m planning out a children’s quilt, I think of fun licensed characters. My mind does not gravitate to solid prints first, and I think that has been a mistake of mine. For the most part, I have thought of solids as merely accents, the small additions to finish off a balanced sewing project.

Today, I am breaking my mindset and hope to inspire you! I want to show you an incredibly fun and show-stopping piece that is made of only Camelot Fabric’s New Fresh Solids. The project tested my creativity, as well as my understanding of color theory. Picking the hues that compliment yet contrast enough to make a statement within the fabric piecing.

Enough with the chatting, let me show you the finished Arched Window Mini Quilt.

Eye-catching color, an attractive curved top and just the right amount of HSTs (half square triangles) sprinkled throughout causing a stained glass glimmering effect. I love this mini quilt. More than that, I loved every step making it. Let me show you just a few.

While the arch is a timeless feature, I modernized the look by sewing together trendy colors from the Fresh Solids assortment.

Pool Side #214-0148
Mimosa #214-0136
Chartreuse #214-0143
Orchid #214-0164
Peach Blossom #214-0161
Cactus Flower #214-0166
Gardenia #214-0157

You can see that a couple of the colors are similar, but differ in saturation like Gardenia and Peach Blossom. On the other hand you have starkly contrasting colors like the bright cool Pool Side and the much warmer Mimosa. Why choose colors this way? The coordinating colors give the eye connection points for a smooth transition, while the contrasting colors give interest and excitement to draw you in.

I think the combination worked because I keep looking at this beautiful piece hanging on the wall. Mesmerized.

This mini was quilted with the dreamiest quality CloudFill Fleece Batting in White (#CFF01W-4520) which is part of Camelot Fabrics newest addition, the Behind the Seams collection of stabilizers, interfacings and battings. The CloudFill name was masterfully picked as it really feels cloud-like and dare I say luxurious. I highly recommend you try it.

If you are excited about the Arched Window design, you’re going to be thrilled to know that I created the pattern for you to make, too! Here is the link to sew your own Arched Window Mini Quilt.

As my first project of all solid fabrics, the Arched Window Mini Quilt allowed me to learn new techniques with color. Thankfully, I had the beautiful Camelot Fabrics New Fresh Solids to work with. I hope you will enjoy the pattern and even try your had at mixing solid colors for an impactful look. After all, a project can be just as beautiful and fun with the right mixture of solids.
