Are summer days rolling by faster than you can keep track? I know the feeling. It’s like they pass by in the blink of an eye or the flutter of a firefly, and before we know it summer is through. In my attempt to slow down and capture the magic of the season, the idea of this Summer Days Quilt was born.
Wanting to create the feeling of bright and happy days, I looked for colors that evoked this notion. Pulling from the expertly currated 10” Squares Pre-Cut of Camelot Fabrics called “Sunny Side Up” was the right choice, as it is packed full of just the right Mixology prints. The colors remind me of sliced citrus like grapefruit, oranges, lemon and lime. Ideal for a quilt to picnic on, during summer outings.
Complimenting the 10” Squares is yardage of Fresh Solids in Mint Chip, Peach Blossom and White. Adding the Fresh Solids to the sashing and borders really enhanced the Mixology fabrics used in the center but did not distract from their textured prints. To finish off the quilt composition with a bit of charm, was the addition of Oxford Chambray in Blue used in the striped sashing and borders.
The pop of Blue was my favorite fabric pick in this quilt. It really uplifted the overall feel. Don’t you think?
For this Summer Days quilt, the feeling of nostalgia was priority, that is why the Baby Blocks Quilt Pattern was the way to go. It captures the feel of tradition patchwork squares with an elevated look that comes from the stripey sashing. Another big plus to the Baby Blocks Quilt Pattern is that there are no tedious quilt blocks to be pieced. The focal blocks are cut and ready to sew, while the stripey sashing is sewn in a long continuous piece that is cut to size with ease. A quick row-by-row assembly brings the quilt top together in a flash. Click here to download free pdf instructions.
With less time at the sewing machine, you get more time in the sunshine which was the entire point of this project.
Now, enjoy your Summer Days to the fullest!
