Why Woven Interfacing? Getting to Know FuseFlex

Some fabrics need a little extra help to hold their shape. Whether you’re sewing a garment, working on needlework, or experimenting with punch embroidery, the right interfacing can make all the difference.

Meet FuseFlex, a white, woven cotton interfacing from Camelot Fabrics’ Behind the Seams line. Designed to add support and stability, it’s a handy addition to your sewing room for projects that need a little more structure.

What Makes FuseFlex Different?

FuseFlex is a one-sided fusible woven interfacing made from 100% cotton. Its lightweight, woven construction makes it suitable for adding support without relying on a bulky stabilizer.

With a weight of 85gsm, FuseFlex is designed for light to medium woven and knit fabrics, including oxford, chambray, gingham, and flannel.

It’s especially useful when you want to reinforce certain areas of a garment or give fabric extra stability for detailed needlework and punch embroidery.

Where Can You Use It?

Think of FuseFlex as an extra layer of support for projects that could use a little reinforcement.

You can use it to:

  • Support garment details: Add stability to selected areas of clothing.
  • Prepare fabric for needlework: Help provide a more stable foundation for your stitching.
  • Work with punch embroidery: Add support to suitable fabric projects.
  • Explore different fabric types: Use it with light to medium woven and knit fabrics.

FuseFlex is also sewing machine safe, making it a practical option for projects that involve machine stitching.

How to Apply FuseFlex

FuseFlex is designed to be attached to fabric using the heat of your iron. A few simple steps can help you get ready for your next project.

1. Prepare your pieces

Cut the interfacing to fit the area you want to reinforce. As a general product note, cut it 1/4 inch smaller than your fabric to help prevent adhesive resin from reaching the fabric’s face.

2. Position the interfacing

Place the fusible side against the wrong side of your fabric, following the product’s application recommendations.

3. Press to fuse

Use a medium to high cotton setting on your iron for optimal results. Follow the recommended application instructions and take care when working with different fabric types.

4. Continue with your project

Once the interfacing is applied, you can move on to sewing or stitching your project.

Tip: If you’re using FuseFlex with a fabric you haven’t worked with before, test it on a scrap piece first.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

A little preparation goes a long way when working with fusible interfacing.

  • Choose the right fabric: FuseFlex is intended for light to medium woven and knit fabrics.
  • Mind your iron setting: A medium to high cotton setting is recommended.
  • Protect the fabric face: Cutting the interfacing 1/4 inch smaller helps avoid resin contamination.
  • Test before you fuse: Testing on a scrap can help you check how the interfacing works with your fabric.
Caring for Projects Made with FuseFlex

FuseFlex is machine washable up to 40°C / 104°F and can be tumble dried on low.

Always consider the care requirements of the fabric used in your finished project, too.
